Quarter round is a narrow, curved molding known for its small profile and relative flexibility, making it easy to work with during installation. It is most commonly used as a decorative trim piece to enhance architectural details or to provide a finished look at the junction between the baseboard and the floor.
One of its primary functions is to conceal any uneven gaps or imperfections where the baseboard meets the flooring.
A similar molding, called base shoe, serves a comparable purpose in flooring applications. While both quarter round and base shoe are designed to bridge the gap between baseboards and floors, base shoe typically has a slightly different profile-offering a more subtle transition-and may be preferred in certain design contexts for its sleeker appearance.
