Shiplap and T&G (Tongue and Groove) are two commonly used panels with some distinct differences in design and installation:
Design Differences:
Shiplap panels have long horizontal panels with a distinctive groove (rabbet) on one side and a corresponding protrusion on the other side. When installed, the panels overlap each other to form a tight and flat joint.
T&G panels consist of interlocking panels with a protruding "tongue" on one side and a groove on the other. The tongue portion of one panel fits into the groove of the adjacent panel, forming a seamless and tight fit
Material Variety:
Both Shiplap and T&G sheets can be made from different materials including wood, engineered wood, PVC and MDF. This allows for a range of options in terms of appearance, durability and maintenance
